Sustainable Conference Hotels in Ireland: Insights from BnM Energy 2026
The BnM Energy Conference 2026, hosted last week at Tullamore Court Hotel, highlighted the growing intersection between sustainability, infrastructure and commercial strategy within Ireland’s hospitality sector. The event brought together leaders from renewable energy, infrastructure, government and investment, including BnM, EirGrid, AWS, IDA Ireland and Wind Energy Ireland, reinforcing how ESG and operational sustainability are increasingly shaping conference venue selection and wider hospitality investment decisions in Ireland. Speaking at the conference, Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment Darragh O’Brien said Ireland’s energy transition depends on “the infrastructure, investment and innovation required to turn that ambition into delivery.”
Sustainability Is Becoming a Core Part of Conference Venue Selection
Sustainability is increasingly moving from brand positioning into commercial expectation within hospitality. According to Booking.com’s 2025 Sustainable Travel Report, 93% of global travellers said they want to make more sustainable travel choices, while ESG reporting requirements and sustainability standards are increasingly influencing corporate procurement and event planning decisions. Within hospitality operations, energy management is becoming particularly important. Industry research published in 2026 found energy consumption accounts for roughly 60% of a hotel’s carbon footprint and utility expenditure, while hotels globally invested more than $4.6 billion in energy management upgrades in 2023 alone.
This shift aligns closely with Cliste Hospitality’s wider operational approach. The Cliste Hospitality’s portfolio of hotels were the first in Ireland to achieve ISO 50001 certification, the international standard for energy management systems, reflecting the growing importance of energy-efficient hotel operations and sustainable conference delivery.
The BnM Energy Conference reflected this wider shift clearly. Hosted at Tullamore Court Hotel, the event brought together leaders from renewable energy, infrastructure, investment and government at a venue increasingly aligned with the operational sustainability standards now expected across major conferences and corporate events. For the Irish hotel sector, sustainability is increasingly becoming less about brand messaging and more about operational credibility.
