What Tripadvisor’s 2026 Travellers’ Choice “Best of the Best” Awards Reveal About Hotel Performance
Released on 9 June 2026, Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards recognised Ariel House among Ireland’s Best of the Best Hotels, placing it within the top 1% of accommodation providers and ranking it as the 22nd best accommodation provider in Ireland. Muckross Park Hotel & Spa was also recognised in the awards, ranking as the 10th best luxury hotel in Ireland and placing it within Tripadvisor’s top 10% of hotels worldwide.
While these awards are often viewed through the lens of guest satisfaction, they increasingly reflect something much broader: a measure of operational consistency as well as a commercial asset.
Guest Reviews as a Commercial Asset
Hotel booking journies are increasingly shaped by reputation, with research conducted among 5,000 hotel guests across five European markets by Accor concluding 97% consult guest reviews before booking a hotel stay, while travellers read an average of almost nine reviews before making a decision.
Historically, guest reviews were viewed as an outcome of the guest experience while today they influence booking decisions, conversion performance and increasingly how hotels are surfaced across digital channels. Their influence is also extending beyond traditional booking behaviour. As search evolves towards AI-powered answer engines, guest reviews are increasingly becoming a source of information used by platforms to recommend, rank and summarise hotels. In an era of AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation), review sentiment, review volume and review consistency are becoming increasingly important signals of trust and authority.
For hotel owners and operators, results like these highlight an important shift taking place across hospitality. Reputation is no longer simply influencing booking decisions, but increasingly, it is influencing the discoverability of a hotel brand itself.
Reputation Earned in Operations
One of the reasons Tripadvisor’s rankings continue to build in commercial relevancy is the fact they are built on the quality and quantity of reviews submitted by travellers over a rolling 12-month period, rather than judging panels or award submissions. Ariel House currently maintains a 4.6/5 rating from more than 2,460 guest reviews, while Muckross Park Hotel & Spa holds a 4.7/5 rating across almost 2,450 reviews. Both properties achieve service scores of 4.8/5, with Muckross also recording a cleanliness score of 4.9/5. Unlike traditional industry awards, these rankings reflect the collective opinion of thousands of guests over time. As review volumes increase, individual experiences have less impact on the overall result, making sustained performance increasingly dependent on operational discipline, leadership consistency and the ability to repeatedly deliver standards across every area of the business.
What This Means for Hotel Owners
As online reviews continue to influence both booking behaviour and digital visibility, reputation is becoming increasingly intertwined with commercial performance. Properties that consistently deliver strong guest experiences benefit from greater trust, stronger positioning and improved visibility across both traditional search and emerging AI-driven discovery platforms. The recognition achieved by Ariel House and Muckross Park Hotel & Spa demonstrates the value of sustained operational focus and long-term commitment to guest experience. While awards are welcome, they are ultimately a reflection of something more important: the consistent delivery of hospitality standards that guests are willing to recommend.
